Nocturnal leg cramps

Have you been awakened in the middle of the night by a sudden painful cramp in your leg?

yes,i did
last night twice, previous night once

this is the info i can find:

Nocturnal leg cramps can lead to a rude awakening: You're suddenly sleepless and in pain in the middle of the night. Symptoms of nocturnal leg cramps include excruciating contractions of the calf muscles, and sometimes of the foot muscles as well.

Nocturnal leg cramps are true cramps and not spasms. The muscle remains in a cramped and contracted position, which accounts for the intensity of the pain. If you touch the affected calf, you may be surprised to discover that your muscles feel very hard, almost like concrete, a measure of the power of the cramp.

Studies have shown increased electrical activity in the affected muscles, but doctors still don't know what causes nocturnal leg cramps. In some cases, it may be a fluid imbalance or a vitamin deficiency.

Treatment for leg cramps is straightforward and easy to follow. Avoid tight bed covers, which can lead to pointing of the toes and subsequent cramps. Stretch your calf muscles for about five minutes nightly before getting into bed. If you have a cramp, pull your toes back (don't point them), and, if necessary, put your foot on the floor and lean forward.

Some evidence suggests that a potassium deficiency may cause nocturnal leg cramps. Many sleepers have eliminated their cramps entirely just by making sure they eat plenty of potassium rich foods, including

  • Bananas, apricots, nectarines, dates, grapes, or raisins
  • Beans
  • Cabbage/broccoli family of vegetables
  • Oranges, grapefruit, and their juice
  • Pork and lamb
  • Potatoes and corn
  • Saltwater fish (for example, tuna)
  • Tomatoes and tomato juice

Of course, if you wake up with a leg cramp, a banana's not going to do you much good, so here are some tips to relieve cramps immediately:

  • Apply a hot compress to the cramped muscles.
  • Massage the cramped muscles.
  • Stretch and flex. Lie on your back in bed, lift your legs, extend them toward the ceiling, and then point your toes to the ceiling and flex them slowly back toward your calf. Repeat this flex and stretch until the cramps stop. For an extra good stretch, grab your toes while still in this position and pull them down toward your knees. You'll feel this stretch working in the back of the calf muscles.

Star of the month

Our Beloved Thoe
Our Beloved Nen Ching
During the trip back from Sitiawan, we were talking about how did we get to know each other
in the beginning and how did we end up as a gang of frens and couple for some of you. It all started with our very first Penang Trip. A humble gentleman named Thoe was invited to join this trip but...he was thinking...what if i was the only guy in the gang ? very embarrasing one wor..I truly understand his feeling ( boy sch student ) later he found out that Chung Seng also going...then ok lar..ON !!! Jadi driver saja mah..sap sap sui.
Nen Ching, a thoughthful girl, was also invited for the trip. She was thinking..erm..I am stilll not that close with them..should I go ? Should I follow ? Despite all the questions in her mind, she decided to join the trip last minute...ON !!!
Throughout the entire trip, we kept teasing these two people, while everyone was having fun at the beach, Thoe and Nen were sitting together, chatting , laughing...and photos were snapped. A movie clip was recorded too!!!
As what everyone wishes, Thoe and Nen became couple after the trip and I guess they have been together for more than 3 years. It's not easy for a young couple to last that long. Especially with rumours like Nen is not Thoe's first and Nen has got so many bfs back in sitiawan like the Char Kueh Tiow's son and Indon Chinese...wakakakaka ...just joking.
Uncertainty lies ahead of us, but I wish you both all the best !!! I really enjoy seeing how you both communicate, just like a couple who undertands each other so well, being married for many years but with the feeling of "first love":)
All the best !!!!!!!
* more episodes are coming up, let me korek all the insider info of the couples in our gang.

Once Upon A Time

Date: Long Long Time Ago

Dance According to the Rhythms

Today is Wednesday, June 16, 2010, is normal working day. Normal working day means normal working moods. However, I have some strange feeling today….Some kind of excitement, joy, free, passion feeling in my body mentally and physically. So I can just summarize it as good feeling in short.

Is weird, how come all this good feeling is flowing all over my body after this feeling disappear for so long? Is normal working days and tomorrow is not holiday and I am not taking leave tomorrow. Some people may guess that today is ‘ba zhang’ festival so I am excited to eat abalone after work? Absolutely wrong is my answer for those who guess that’s the factor. After a while of good feeling, now I realized what’s gone wrong. I am wearing smart casual today due to some company activities. Red Adidas shirt with brown color long pant and of course my silver color stripes Adidas shoes.

For the past three years during my Metro days, that’s so called my uniform or attire. That’s the time I wake up for my 10am class. I am so excited in the morning because I thought I am going to class later. No wonder all this good feeling flowing in my mind! Why no good feeling if you are going to class later? Go to class, listen some lecture, sit with your friend, some BS (bluff stories) with your friends, class over and you can do whatever you like after that with your friend.

Suddenly, when I get ready to depart from my house and carry my bag. Gosh! Is my HP laptop bag. I am going to work not lecture/class. I am not carrying the Nike turtle shape bag but is a heavy laptop bag. Then I realized is no more what happy happy suka suka day is working days. I still can dress the same like 3yrs ago and bring turtle shape bag but is not the same anymore. I am using Maju Expressway now not Federal Highway or NEP. People around me have heir own dream and destination. World is moving, my friends is moving, everything is moving and is not the same anymore. No matter hard you try, how many effort you put in, things will not be the same anymore. Either you follow the rhythms of the dance and dance together or you stay where you are and continue dancing with your own rhythms. So dance according to the rhythms as we are not getting any younger. Look forward move on, leave the past but always keep the great moment in our heart and not imagine we can get back there again.

(may have some grammar and spelling mistake because I do this during office hours, shhhhhh!)

Sitiawan-Lumut-P.Pangkor

Hi peeps, thanks for the trip ! It was really a fun-filled trip with all the laughters, good foods, countryside view, stress-free mind......but I am sure it will be much more interesting if the rest could make it for the trip :)

For me, going for holidays with a good company is something which could strengthen or even loosen the friendship bond as we will see each other days and nights for few days. Many things may happen in these few days. I really treasure going holidays with you guys, it gives me an opportunity to know you more as well as to discover myself more in the trip.

Getting bored with the city life, it's good to go to some small towns and enjoying the lifestyle there. It will be best if I have the DSLR camera to capture the motion of the people there. During the trip, I kept asking myself and you guys, "what are the people here doing ? staying so far apart from the town ? there is nothing around the housing estate but a thick forest ? " I am really wondering. But, I am sure these people live a good life with no stress.

Looking forward to our next trip !

Tham
